Why Bloggers prefer anonymous blogging?
1Anonymous blogging means writing a blog or diary online in such a way that the writer will hide his/her identity. There can be different reasons why some writers don’t want to disclose their names and style of writing a blog to the public. Since blogging has become popular, some programmers create different tools to make simplifications on the methods of anonymous blogging.
Authors Get Involved in Different Blogging Forms
The traditional weblog is the most commonly known type of anonymous blogging. These are the kinds of blogs which usually run short to moderate length articles created on a daily or weekly basis. However, longer common entries which focus on a specific topic are also available. There are also other writers who chose to pose more concise messages using microblogging such as twitter. Some others will also participate anonymously in multiple user blogs wherein different authors will contribute the same or separate articles which will be posted in the same site.
Why Choose Being Anonymous
One of the reasons why people get involved in anonymous blogging is to avoid possible confrontation when gossip or complain arises. Writers with this kind of motive are mostly have negative things to say to a certain individual or institution but will not be considered whistleblowers because they will not be revealing any unethical or illegal behavior. These kinds of blogs are not protected by whistleblowing laws; therefore, if there will be certain false and damaging statements presented by the author in these blogs, he /she may be sued for libel.
How to Become Anonymous
There are different kinds of method used by writers to keep anonymous. Bloggers usually chose to be unknown are usually influenced by technical skills and resources from people who aim to discover someone’s identity. In most cases where resources are not available, using a false name would be enough. For some cases a more technically complex solution might be necessary. This includes being always connected to the blogs through an unknown web proxy or using a more advance service like The Onion Writer (TOR). Even if the best advanced technology will be used to protect a writer’s identity, there are still possibilities of accidental revelation of his confidential information. This is the reason why some authors make alterations on the details they post for every article.
Personal Vs. Business Matters
Anonymous blogs enables total separation between personal/professional life and blogging life. This can be true to individuals who blog about sensitive topics on adult blogs etc.
With anonymous blogging, the risk of stalkers will be controlled. This type of blogging also provides clarity that the write is just writing for himself, his place of employment and does not have to worry about the possibility that readers may think that the writer is one of the subject of his blogs. Moreover, writing under various names lets bloggers to express a variety of aspects of their personality which include parts that may be not right to be shown at other times. Writing an anonymous blog provides writers the permission to play as they are not dealing with the violence of their established personality.

5 security steps to take after installing Windows
5Windows is the most popular PC operating system around with a whopping 91% market share( That’s also the share Google has in its search Engine market). Unfortunately, more popularity means more and more people searching and exploiting loopholes. In this present scenario, security threats and exploits are on the rise and the default level of protection in Windows is not at all enough to meet them. There are some security steps that you must follow in order to stay safe from hackers and identity stealers.
Automatic Updates
The first thing is to check Whether Automatic Updates for your OS has been enabled or not. Microsoft regularly patches security loopholes and vulnerabilities and its the best bet to stay safe. Even patchy versions(read :pirated) require updates and can get all security updates(not the functional ones) here also. If everyone would have patched their systems regularly, we wouldn’t have been hit the Conficker worm which spread virally on Windows Systems due to an already patched vulnerability In Windows affecting millions of PC’s worldwide.
Install an Antivirus for security
This is the most important rule of thumb that most people ignore. An anti-
virus is the most basic protection you can get against any form of malware and its the best practice to scan all devices and downloads before executing them. Microsoft offers its own Anti Virus, Microsoft Security Essentials, to Windows users, which along-with having excellent detection rate,is also completely free. Users looking for something advanced can try out the various paid Security suites by Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee etc. or the free ones from AVG,Avst, Avira etc.
Don’t disable UAC
UAC stands for User Account Control which Is used by Windows to detect suspicious programs and activities going on and also, which I admit, is pretty annoying. But, instead of disabling it, you can decrease the intensity level via the slider present in the Control Panel. Also, instead of blindly clicking on Allow on all the pop-ups, look twice to see whether that program is genuine or fake.User Account Control can serve as an important enough tool if you look past its irritating nature
Always use Updated Software
Take care to ensure that apart from your OS, all the softwares which you are installing should be the latest and updated version. Hackers are quite well known to exploit the various softwares from other manufacturers, especially Adobe’s popular PDF reader and flash player. The manufacturers usually patch their programs from these exploits and regularly updating the tools may very well save you from getting hacked. Mostly, its the common and more popular softwares which are exploited so make sure that you get their latest versions running on your PC.
Change Your Browser!!
Although most of the people stick with the default Internet Explorer browser, its better to change it to the other popular one like Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Internet Explorer 6,which is bundled in Windows XP, contains a lot of security holes and if you’re using a Patchy copy of your OS, chances are you won’t be able to update to Its version 8 or above, which is definitely more secure and better.
At the end, a little common sense and basic knowledge goes a long way in staying safe. The Internet is a dangerous place , but if the end user be aware, all is well

Chrome OS, What’s the fuss all about?
2Google’s Chrome Operating System is a Linux-based OS designed to work better, at times exclusively with web based applications. Initially launched in July 2009, its open source version is called the Chromium OS. While the Chromium OS is free to download, compile or modify, the Chrome OS is only going to be shipped with specific hardware or net books in the markets. Unlike conventional operating systems, Chrome operating system’s only application on the device is a browser incorporating a media player and a file manager as it is aimed at users who spend most of their computer time on the Internet.

Chrome OS is essentially a small sized, fast booting platform whose purpose is to run a web browser from where all the Google apps and other web services that you commonly use, can be run. On first sight, you might say that you can do all this on your current OS using any web browser, but there in lies the difference, Chrome offers incredibly quick boot time, and is all customized for quick access of the internet and apps which in the bigger scheme of things would save quite a bit of time. Plus, with its open source version Chromium OS, you can always modify it to suit your needs, to make it run the way you want it to.
Add to that, it comes pre-loaded with all the popular Google apps and services- Google Talk, Gmail, Picassa, Youtube, Google+ , Google docs, all of which are just a click away if you wish to use them.
User Interface
Chrome OS’s user interface includes using minimal screen space by combining applications and standard Web pages into a single tab strip. Chrome OS lets you take a picture of yours using the web cam while you are setting up your ID on the machine for the first time.
Architecture
Chrome OS and its open source version Chromium OS both follow a 3-tier architecture: firmware, browser and window manager, and system-level software and user services. The firmware provides the quick boot time and incorporates system recovery, if and when it’s needed. Chrome OS’s system-level software includes a Linux kernel that’s patched to increase the speed the speed and performance of the system while the Window manager cum browser handles the user interaction and is also used to log on and use the internet services and various Google apps.
Hardware Compatibility
The Chrome OS comes in only on select notebooks, called the Chromebooks, currently served by Samsung and Acer. However, one can download its open source version the Chromium OS to run on your PC, Chromium OS requires just 1GB disk space, 256 MB RAM and supports most of today’s graphics cards and support both Intel, AMD processors.
Why should you use it?
Chrome OS does a lot of things right and its almost custom made for regular internet users but you can do all that on your current OS too, so why then should you switch over to Chrome OS?
Speed
Windows 7 runs fast, but scratch that,Chrome OS is designed to run on low-powered Atom and ARM processors, and web-based applications don’t require that much horsepower on the client end so it should be faster still. Google promises boot times measured in seconds, not minutes, so battery life of your notebooks/Chromebooks should also get a boost.
Software Compatibility
For each one of the Windows’ versions you need drivers to make it compatible for your system, with Linux finding drivers even more tougher. If Google can come up with an OS that can be downloaded, dropped onto any machine then , we might just have the ultimate portable OS. And that is what Google are promising!
Portability
One of the biggest troubles when on the road is about carrying
your system and the data. With Google’s Chrome OS all of Google’s services — Gmail, Google Docs, Picasa and so on — will be built-in and you would have offline access via Google Gears.
And just in case if you wish to try out the Chrome OS, here’s one of the links for its open source variant Chromium OS.

Is Piracy too EASY?
11
Move over malware and terrorism, the world is reeling under Piracy.
Piracy in the world is so rampant that most people don’t even know that they are using pirated goods. The nearby street hawker or that “CD wala“outside the railway station, people are openly selling pirated movies, games and what-not. Piracy is so widely spread that even the government is too helpless to act against it. Cracks , keygens and patches have become synonymous with the numerous torrent sites where it takes only a day or two to get the latest movie right at the comfort of your screen. The loss incurred by software manufactures was pegged at a staggering US$50.2 billion for the year 2008 .Piracy is just too cheap, too convenient and after all too easy and I don’t see it subsiding any-time now.
Software Piracy
Pirated software even outstrips free software as the cost factor is negated.Who wouldn’t want to buy Windows 7 Ultimate selling for a measly Rs. 100 whereas the genuine Windows 7 Home Basic only costs about Rs. 4000 . Cracked or otherwise patched software is so easily available that many people are reluctant to buy the original despite knowing the legal implications.Although software pirates have been tracked down in the past, it doesn’t seem to deter them any more. The P2P sharing site thepiratebay.org was fined for a massive 46 million $ but as you can see the site is still running strong. The solution, however isn’t to ban torrent or any such sites. The end user, should instead be aware of how their actions will affect the companies but the cost factor after all negates all this.A roadside hawker who is barely literate himself can very well explain to you about how to install that crack or use that keygen and process is even more helped with torrent sites.Even the high end showrooms don’t

care about the losses and a laptop shipping with Free-DOS can very well be installed with the complimentary but pirated copy of Windows 7 Ultimate.
Using pirated software also comes with its own downsides. You could install a cleverly disguised Trojan or spyware along with your Photoshop as pirated CD’s often have harmful malware installed by the pirates.
Piracy In games
Piracy in games is not that very different especially when it comes to the price difference. The latest PC or console game may range from Rs.500 to about Rs. 2500 but on the roadside its available for just a mere Rs. 30.On Torrent sites such as www.gamestorrents.com or www.btjunkie.org , you can find loads of seeds and peers of every new game that you can think of.
The obvious reason for buying pirated games is affordability-more than anything else-and very easy accessibility. However, it comes with its own disadvantage, the media is often very low quality and very prone to scratches.A single scratch can render the whole DVD unusable because high compression used in it.Also modding your console to play pirated games will void your warranty and if you have one of those XBOX 360′s with the frequent RROD error, you can say bye-bye to free help.
Piracy In Movies
Movie Piracy is rising and with high entertainment taxes in India, a movie ticket costs no less than Rs. 150 to Rs. 200.The latest movies can be gotten with a simple search at your favourite torrent site.DVDRips and BRrips have become quite common in our computers and certain uploaders also offer premium quality HD movies all for free.
Pirates movies are also available near street corners, railway stations and market areas in most cities in India. Some are also , at time, available before their release dates.Usually theatre managers/owners are hand in glove with the pirates and charge a hefty price for doing the same.Usually one DVD is bought and copies are ripped and copies onto DVDs for sale. The DYDs are produced in bulk and are packaged in plastic sleeves with look-alike covers.
Piracy In Music
The losses that the music industry suffers amounts to million of rupees each year. The popularity of the MP3 format has led to an exponential increase in its piracy. Even a sub 1500 phone is able to play MP3 files and loads of Chinese players are available for just about Rs. 500. A Rs. 30 disc on the market contains hundreds of the latest Mp3 songs and sites such as songs.pk are also there to help you out.Unlike pirated software there is also a very low risk of getting infected with trojans or other virii.
Ebook Piracy
The issue of ebook piracy hasn’t surface that much because most people believe that all the ebooks that are available are after all free to read but that’s not the case.most of the ebooks present for free on the Internet are violating the individual copyright laws. Millions of book in the popular PDF format are uploaded on torrent sites and websites such as Scribd or Esnips.
International magazines , books and study material that is hard to find can all be found with just a simple Google search. If you search for a book to buy to buy on Google, chances are that it’ll list the pirated links even before genuine ones.
Last Word
Using Pirated software and movies is certainly illegal but in the end its upto the end user about whether he wants to stay on the right side of the law or not. The advantages of piracy are numerous but the disadvantages are quite few.Torrent sites are and will continue to ply and while the government and the companies are doing their level best to decrease costs and catch pirates, success rate it still very few. What do you think of the ongoing trend? How do you think we can stop Piracy?Let Us know your opinions in the comments below.

How to secure your passwords with Keepass
2
Most of you have loads of accounts on different websites and remembering each and every one of them becomes quite a pain. From what the tech guys say,”Never use the same password for every count, Use a mixture of numbers, symbols …blah blah blah”,Well, then they themselves should try and remember each and every one of them. Here’s when Passwords manager soft-wares such as Keepass or LastPass come in. In this post, I will explain how to setup and use Keepass Password Safe, a free and popular Password Manager.
Downloading and setting up Keepass
First ,Download Keepass from the installer exe file that came with your download.Agree to the license and on the first launch you will see a screen asking for a master password. This is essentially the Password to store all of your user names, passwords, and eve
ry other detail here.A key file instead of a master password can also be used as shown in the screenshot , which is basically a file, which acts as your password. However,if this file is lost, all your precious passwords stored in Keepass will also be lost so it’s better not to use it. Another option is to use the Windows User Account as the account for Keepass and the same password, which again is not so secure.

If you are using the master password, make sure to make it a strong one with about 20 characters and the right mixture of characters, numbers and symbols and of course this will be the only password that you’ll have to remember . Making a strong password as well as an easy 2 remember one is a little tough. An example is as follows.
Iw>80$itl could be memorised as I won more than 80 dollars in the lottery.
As you know the passwords for all accounts should not be same so for your facebook account this could become FIw>80$itl .Of course this will also make your password easy to guess to someone who knows your trick – but you won’t tell anyone will you?
Moving On, the next screen you see are the various setting for the database such as encryption type, protection etc. We aren’t going into much details in this post here for keeping it simple.
Using Keepass
With these settings complete you’ll see a two pane window with various groups on the right hand side.Click on the required group and click on the icon Add entry as shown below.
In this window you should type the Title, username and password etc. for your respective website or document. The automatic generator icon is on on the right of the Repeat field and can be used for generating a strong password and no,you don’t have to to remember this
.The expire pfield in the bottom shows the expiry date of the password.
And,in case you are wondering that how is the passsword shown in plain text ,the icon for that is the one with the three dots on it.
You can also create new groups with your own desired name as you want just by right clicking in the pane and click on “Add Group”. Also,if you delete an important entry by mistake, a new group called the recycle bin crops up and the deleted entry can easily be restored from there.
Other settings and the the Advanced Options such as the auto locking of the workspace are in the Tools Menu and you can also generate a list of random passwords by going to Tools | Generate Passwords.
Well, that’s all there is to Keepass and I hope that my tutorial for clear enough for you to understand and all of you will just be that teensy bit more secure :)
Secure yourself On social networks
6If the first thing you do when you open up your browser is logon to Facebook( or now Google +), then you are just like me and a million others , We love to chat, tweet, poke and comment but are we aware of the risks? Everyone you know (and don’t know) is using social media and according to Comscore, India is the eighth largest social networking market in the world. How many of you check a user’s profile before accepting a friend request or how many of you think thrice before clicking or allow for an app.securing your account is an integral part in the world of social networking.
How to Protect yourself?
Geo-location:Never update your present location on website, just never . It’s like putting posters advertising your current location to rob you.
Passwords:This is the first rule to stay safe.Strong Passowrds with a combination of letters and symbols should always be used on any website be it social networks or business.Of course, that’s easier said than done and remembering each and evry passowrd becomes quite a pain to prevent which you can use a software such as Keepass to take care of all your password management problems as it keeps all your passwods safe and you only need to remember to a master password to protect them.
Fake Facebook Apps
Beware when you see messages like “WOW.,now you can see who visited your profile.Click Here to activate”. You should always check the permissions that app is taking. If a gaming app is asking for access to your facebook chat then something is certainly fishy.
Pattern Recognition:If you go to Domino’s everyday and update the same on Foursquare then you have made the work of a thief(a technically sound one ) much easier. All he has to do is to follow you and all his work is done by the victiom himself and while you are munching away that pizza the thief will be doing his work in your house
Adding Random people: Don’t ever add people you don’t know at least not without checking. Every one knows facebook’s privacy settings are on the loose and your so called friend and could have access to your phone number , email and house address, which is something you’d think twice about giving someone in real life.
Popular News Stories: Spammers take every opportunity they have and their biggest method is to cash on fake links claiming to be leaked videos like of Osama Bin LAden’s killing or the recent Mumbai Blast
Shortened URLs:These make hackers’ work just more easier. They completely disguise the original link and when coupled with an unbelievable sounding stories are just as harmful.Always use a link checkers such as the popular AVG’s, WOT (Web of Trust) or you can just use the website LongUrl.
Phishing: Watch out for suspicious looking links or page invites even from your trusted friends and always double check the URL before typing your username.A padlock or a green symbol will be visible on top of secure login forms. Many Fake surveys are also sent by people asking you to fill out your personal details.Of course, its just another trick by hackers.
Public Computers:Never tick on the remember password option in a cyber cafe or a shared computer.remember that clicking the cross button does not automatically log you out but instead the next person opening the browser will be greeted with your profile.
Well, I hope that you enjoyed the tips I shared and your account will now be just a little bit safer.
